February 2025 marks the long-awaited arrival of 'Initiation', the debut EP from False Idols—a project forged by the dynamic collaboration between legendary vocalist Ronny Munroe (ex-Metal Church, ex-Vicious Rumors, Munroe’s Thunder, CAVE) and prolific multi-instrumentalist Johan de Jager (ex-Voice of Destruction, ex-Arcana XXII, Overlord, Hybris). Guitarist Nikolay Atanasov also lends his formidable skills to the lineup.
The journey began in 2023 when Johan de Jager, having crafted a set of intense, melodic songs, sought a vocalist capable of matching their power. Enter Ronny Munroe, who stepped in initially as a guest—bringing his signature blend of soaring screams and gritty rock grit to the project. Recording wrapped up in late 2023, followed by meticulous mixing and mastering in early 2024, before 'Initiation' finally saw the light in early 2025.
The EP opens with ‘Surveillance of Speech’, an atmospheric track featuring Hammond organ textures and spoken word passages, before unleashing crushing, down-tuned guitar riffs. Munroe commands attention throughout, shifting effortlessly from melodic clarity to fierce metallic growls, punctuated by searing guitar solos.
Next comes ‘Suffer in Silence’, balancing haunting synths and melodic hooks with restrained heaviness, drawing listeners into its emotional core. ‘Light’ ventures into Epic Doom territory, complete with majestic synth layers and clean guitar, culminating in a hypnotic, headbanging rhythm.
Things escalate with ‘Thick as Thieves’, a fiery track driven by galloping riffs and thunderous drumming. The finale, ‘Balance of Power’, explodes with Power Metal energy—a riff-fueled anthem that arguably stands as the EP’s crown jewel.
