#BreakingNews : EXEQUATOR releases the single “Gods” and joins the new wave of traditional Heavy Metal
Bagé-RS, Brazil – The Brazilian Heavy Metal band Exequator has officially released their single “Gods”, solidifying the lineup that will record their long-awaited debut studio album. The track captures the group at their creative and technical peak, presenting a musical direction that aligns with the rising new wave of traditional Heavy Metal — a movement that revives the roots of the genre while forging a modern identity amid an era of stylistic uncertainty.
Lyrically, “Gods” delves into themes of faith’s vices, hypocrisy, greed, and the corruptive nature of power, exploring how it can erode and destroy everything in its path. Yet, the song remains open to multiple interpretations, allowing listeners to project their own reflections and experiences.
The band shares the song’s backstory:
“‘Gods’ was our first composition, created in 2014, and it went through many changes over the years. We have a special affection for it, as it brings together a bit of all our influences. In 2015, we participated in an original bands contest and won first place with ‘Gods’, as well as the awards for best bassist and best vocalist for Exequator. That performance is available on our YouTube channel.”
Speaking about their upcoming debut album, Exequator adds:
“The difference between the early compositions and the current ones—after several lineup changes, hiatus periods, and, most importantly, our growth as musicians and as people—should bring an interesting contrast to this album, arriving more than 10 years later. All this identity building and diversity of experiences are reflected in the songs, and we believe listeners will feel that throughout the record.”
Formed in 2014 in Bagé-RS, Exequator draws inspiration from Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rush, Metallica, Savatage, Queensrÿche, Accept, and ’70s progressive rock. Beyond pure entertainment, the band uses music as a form of social reflection, challenging distorted societal foundations and criticizing systems that perpetuate inequality and privilege the few.
Exequator is composed of Bruno Meneses (vocals), Adso Crespo and Julian Pinho (guitars), Lucas Ollé (bass), and Gean Cunha (drums). With over a decade of evolution, the group stands as a testament to cultural resilience and artistic integrity within Brazil’s underground scene.
“Gods” features vocals and drums recorded at Área 51 Studio in Bagé-RS, while Diego Monteblanco handled the bass and guitar recordings, mixing, and mastering at his home studio. The single’s artwork showcases the iconic painting “The Tower of Babel” by Pieter Bruegel — a fitting image for a song questioning power, faith, and human ambition.
