#BreakingNews : THE ORIGINS Debut with Sun-Soaked Single “Bali Girl”
Rising from the Central Coast of New South Wales, The Origins have officially introduced themselves with their debut single, “Bali Girl” — a vibrant fusion of surf rock, reggae-infused indie, and subtle psychedelic textures.
Formed in 2025, the band brings together Carlos Messina (bass, vocals), Max Lee (guitar), Dexter Lee (drums), and Macklan Collins (guitar, vocals). With half the members hailing from Bristol, England, and the other half raised along Australia’s Wamberal and Copacabana coastlines, their sound reflects a unique collision of cultures and influences.
The track was born spontaneously during a rainy jam session at their shared home in Copacabana. What began as loose improvisation quickly evolved into a fully realized song. Recorded at Damien Gerard Studios and produced by Andrew Beck, “Bali Girl” captures a sense of freedom and escapism, blending laid-back grooves with uplifting melodies.
Musically, the band leans into a fluid style that shifts between reggae-rock, melodic surf-indie, and expanding psychedelic elements. Drawing inspiration from acts like MGMT and Red Hot Chili Peppers, their sound remains intentionally boundary-free and evolving.
Lyrically, “Bali Girl” celebrates freedom, confidence, and the magnetic pull of Bali — inspired by women from all walks of life who find liberation and self-expression on the island. The band describes it as a universal anthem of joy and self-discovery.
With their debut release, The Origins aim to deliver exactly what the song embodies: positivity, connection, and good vibes — marking a promising start for this cross-continental indie outfit.
