#BreakingNews : KEKAL Returns with New Single “SEE THE REAPERS COMING” After Four-year Hiatus
Jakarta, Indonesia – Avant-garde/experimental metal pioneers Kekal have officially returned with their first new material in four years. Titled “See The Reapers Coming,” the single is now available on Kekal’s Bandcamp page as a free download or via a donation-based system.
Alongside the release, the band has also unveiled an official lyric video on their YouTube channel, emphasizing the thematic core of the track.
Musically, “See The Reapers Coming” channels the raw energy of Kekal’s classic 1998 debut album “Beyond The Glimpse Of Dreams”—a record that saw a resurgence in 2023 through a CD and cassette reissue by Bali-based metal label Sadist Records. The new track delivers a powerful blend of 80s-inspired metal riffs while preserving Kekal’s signature approach of fusing unexpected musical elements. With a more organic production style, the song places stronger emphasis on guitar and drum arrangements, while embracing a more focused classic metal direction.
The single is also set to appear on Kekal’s forthcoming album “Kanata,” which is currently in the early stages of recording.
Formed in 1995, Kekal began as an extreme metal band before evolving into a progressive and avant-garde force. Over the years, they have become one of Indonesia’s earliest metal acts to gain international recognition, releasing albums across North America and Europe. In 2004, Kekal made history as the first Indonesian band to tour Europe, performing in Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
Since 2009, Kekal has operated outside the framework of a fixed lineup, allowing the project to grow freely while maintaining its distinct identity. This independence continues to define the band’s journey—musically, artistically, and philosophically.
